Whether you’re visiting to ski or buy watches, the scenic slow travel option to Geneva has just become a tad more civilized. A new train route via Lille on Eurostar and TGV Lyria now takes a little over six hours from London St Pancras, cutting out the tiring and time-consuming trudge between Parisian railway stations. The slick connection in the northern French city - Lille Europe station has just been revamped - will shave time and inconvenience off further journeys in 2015, starting with Lyon and Marseille in May, and Amsterdam in 2016.
