Ingredients

  • 30ml mezcal
  • 30ml blanco tequila
  • 30ml fresh orange juice
  • 15ml fresh lemon juice
  • 15ml cinnamon syrup (see recipe, below)
  • 7 drops aromatic bitters

For the garnish

  • 1 slice orange

Cinnamon syrup (makes approx. 240ml)

  • 240ml water
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 200g white sugar

Method

Combine all the ingredients except the bitters in a shaker filled with ice. Shake until chilled and double-strain into a double old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish with the orange slice, add the bitters and serve.

For the cinnamon syrup

Combine the water and cinnamon in a small pan and bring to the boil. Cover, reduce the heat to a simmer and infuse for 20 minutes. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved.

Remove from the heat, allow to sit for at least 1 hour and up to 4 hours, then strain into a non-reactive container.

Seal and store in the fridge for up to 4 weeks.
