Bolt Head, Salcombe, Devon
Salcombe is fast becoming a Putney-by-the-sea, with a well-heeled crowd of fish fanciers heading to this pretty-as-a-picture little seaside Devon town. As such, standards on the dining front are high, none more so than at the eachside, in the South Sands hotel. Overlooking its own little slice of Devonian sand and surf, you can get stuck into a wide range of dishes. Chef Darren Swales balances turf with surf with ‘Fishmonger’ and ‘Butcher’ menus. So as well as crayfish cocktails, whole lemon sole and chargrilled breams, he offers local steaks and poultry too. AAM.
