Despite being surrounded by excellent surf and turf, Devon hasn’t always had places to eat that match up. Things have changed in the past ten years, however, and Darts Farm is the perfect showcase for the county’s food and drink. Once a humble farm shop, it’s now possibly one of the best in the country, from the butcher and fishmonger to the cider bar and chocolatier. Somewhat ridiculously, London was once the place to find Devon’s finest on a plate, but The Farm Table would be a favourite even with the capital’s discerning audience. Nibble on sausage rolls made from their own Ruby Red cattle; enjoy the delicate flavour of hand-dived Lyme Bay scallops (with guanciale); and find space for dressed Brixham crab or Powderham lamb leg steak. Where once you might say, ‘This is good for Devon,’ today, this is just plain good. And worth any mileage it takes to get here. dartsfarm.co.uk
