Hospitality is the third largest employer in the UK, yet there is no Minister for Hospitality in government. Over 3 million are employed by the sector and a further 2m dependant on it, there is £130bn in activity resulting in £38bn in taxation.
And yet, unlike other industries such as sport and the arts, there is
no dedicated government minister for hospitality. The current
representation is spilt between two crowded departments: the departments
for business, energy and industrial strategy and the department for
digital, culture, media and sport.
The pandemic has hit the hospitality industry particularly hard, and the importance of a minister to lead, protect and promote the industry and provide a strong, clear voice is essential.
Join industry legends Robin Hutson, Angela Hartnett and Tom Kerridge and take a #seatathetable. Click here to sign the petition to ask for a Minister for Hospitality and enable the industry a “proper seat at the table” – just like the nation takes a seat across the hundreds of pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, B&Bs and hotels across the UK.
The petition currently has over 190,000 signatures, and Parliament is set to debate the issue on the 11th of January. Nevertheless, we need to show the government how much our industry matters - add your name to the petition and show your support.
