Beirut
Beirut’s creatives flock to this quartet of Ottoman-era buildings tucked away in the bohemian Gemmayze district. From Roman mosaics to modern pieces by visiting artists, the elegant Arthaus lives up to its name – once the owners’ family home, 25 rooms and suites are an eclectic mix of old and new. Golden sculptures, marble columns and fountains sunk beneath patterned tiles adorn the Arthaus Luxury Suites; and clambering vines contrast a colour palette of milk and honey, framing original arched windows, exposed brick ceilings and sandstone terraces. Views of the gardens are best enjoyed from the palatial Classic Rooms, before relaxing in the Spa Suite’s Jacuzzis set in excavated vaults. Take lunch poolside, a glass of Lebanese wine to follow in the underground bar.
