City Pad Hotel

30 Kenmare Street, New York,

Named after its neighbourhood, Nolita, (North of Little Italy) the Nolitan is a newly built boutique hotel squeezed in between residential buildings on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. It’s perfectly situated to explore this arty, slightly edgy part of the city – Chinatown, SoHo and the East Village are a stroll away. The home-from-home feel begins at the door with welcoming, helpful staff. Rooms are compact – not unusual in NYC – but well designed with their mix of industrial and cosy: unfinished concrete ceilings and sleek wooden floors contrast with a big, outrageously comfortable bed dressed in the softest linen imaginable. There’s a floor-to-ceiling glass shower (with blind, if you’re feeling shy) and deliciously scented bath products from local organic store Red Flower. Some balconies have views to the Empire State Building and beyond. You can order room service from a selection of local restaurants and nearby Spring Street boasts diverse eateries including famed bistro Balthazar. EB. Doubles from £127, nolitanhotel.com
