If you love the sea you’ll adore Rochevilaine. The sprawling Domaine is perched on cliff tops at the tip of Pointe de Penn Lann, 35km from Vannes, southern Brittany. The 39 rooms and suites are former manor houses, salt customs houses, granite minicastles and a fisherman’s house on the water’s edge, all now transformed to include every possible comfort. There are three swimming pools as well as a spa, but the sea is the main attraction. In the restaurant, huge bay windows make you feel like you’re on an ocean liner. Michelin-star chef Patrick Caillault cooks lobsters, shellfish, oysters and local seabass in sea water. There is a lobster menu; other top à la carte dishes include sardines on French toast and hake with vegetable compote. Desserts have a traditional Breton accent, as in warm waffles, green tea sorbet and pistachio milk. Doubles from €250.
