Ubud, Bali
Nothing prepares you for that first glimpse of Bali’s Four Seasons at Sayan. Tucked along Ubud’s Ayung valley, a bridge suspended over the jungle canopy guides you to an eye-widening floating lily pond level with the treetops – any hint of jet lag is dispersed as the pillow of greenery and chirrup of birds envelopes you, setting the tone for a restful stay ahead. Its design is simpatico with the locale. The impressive water feature that greets you covers the rooftop of the hotel’s main space – an open-sided, teak-clad structure inspired by the rounded shape of a rice bowl.
Comprising large suites and two-storey villas – some with private pools – guestrooms are a luxurious affair, dressed in traditional ikat fabric and objects d’art. European-leaning Riverside restaurant provides the perfect pool-day lunch, while Ayung Terrace serves exemplary local dishes like babi guling (roast suckling pig). Elsewhere, an open-air yoga balé and holistic spa ensure that you’ll leave feeling revived and pampered.
