Hotel Unico Hotel

Claudio Coello 67 28001 Madrid

If you like your hotels stylish, this one is for you – on the occasion of Food and Travel’s visit, a fully fledged fashion shoot was taking place in the lobby, leggy models included. Not only because it is located in Madrid’s ‘golden mile’, the city’s most exclusive district, or because it was once a 19th-century palace, Hotel Unico has captured attention for its funky modern design – monochrome, with a few colourful splashes thrown in for good measure. The bedrooms follow suit and, although some are on the small side, all are sleek. A courtyard garden with deep chairs is the perfect spot for sipping Madrid’s drink du moment, gin and tonic, in fishbowl-sized glasses (they even have fever tree tonic). From there you can be whisked into the hotel’s two Michelin-starred restaurant, Ramon Freixa, or strike out to one of the numerous gastronomic venues in this chic neighbourhood. AEM. Doubles from £135.
