Venice
In a city where grand palace hotels clamber for real estate on the
corner of every canal, a bit of US-style space and luxury can come as a welcome change of pace. It’s true that JW Marriott Venice might
not have the gilding and history of its continental cousins, but what it
does have is its own private island, acres of greenery, huge bedrooms
and the sense that you’re part of Venice, but not right in the bustle. A
slice of O Sole Mio is never far away, though, as free, 15-minute boat
transfers run from the hotel’s private entrance every half hour straight to the heart of St Mark’s Square. A marble-bedecked lobby leads into a modern, spacious bar and through a charcuterie bar selling the
city’s cured creations. Upstairs, space is order of the day. Most rooms
come with a long balcony and sitting area, as well as generously sized
beds, walk-in showers and baths. The main restaurant isn’t the place
for authentic Venetian plates, but new flagship restaurant Fiola at
Dopolavoro Venezia from Michelin-starred chef Fabio Trabocchi is worth
the trip across the water alone.
