France
Playing the lead character in a
French novel just got a step closer,
with cobbled streets, an aromatic
bakery and chateau helping to set
the scene. Half-way between
Avignon and Aix, the Provençal
village of Lourmarin is home to
Le Moulin de Lourmarin, a former
18th-century mill with stone walls,
sloped ceilings and spiral staircases.
Part of the Beaumier collection of
hotels – a watchword for authentic,
quality experiences – the building
has been restored in warm neutral colours with a design-led,
minimalistic approach – think
whitewashed backdrops, pops of
ochre and rattan furniture. There’s a
pool, farm-to-fork restaurant, bar
and spa, but our favourite spot?
Watching the world go by as you sit
under the sun umbrellas out front, a
bottle of ice-cold Provence rosé
before you. Albert Camus was once
a guest –and the surroundings might
just spark inspiration for the book in
you too.
