It’s rare for somewhere to have
lived as many lives as Nobis Hotel
Palma. The reception’s decorated
ceiling belies its origins as a Muslim
palace – the Arabic script dating
back to when the Balearic Islands
were under Islamic rule. There’s
a 15th-century gothic extension,
evidence of a baroque phase plus a stint as a soap factory. That’s all
before its latest overhaul, lasting a
painstaking six years. Troupes of
builders and craftspeople shored up
the stone walls, restored beams and
carved out a sun terrace for guests
to soak up the Mediterranean rays.
Tucked away in a peaceful part of
the Old Town, just metres from
some of Palma’s best restaurants,
the building is an attraction in itself.
Compounded with bespoke beds,
exceptional service and the lure of
lobster and oysters served in the
grandeur of Noi restaurant, this
ancient edifice encapsulates the
best of modern hospitality. Doubles from £253.
