Antalya, Turkey
Book-ended by soaring limestone cliffs, framed by a 5km shingled
beach tickling a sea the colours of a Van Gogh painting, Cirali is a small
seaside town that’s been attracting the barefoot, beautiful and bohemian for
decades. Miles away (in both style and location) from the tourist-laden drags
and colossal all-inclusive resorts that litter Antalya’s coast, Olympos Lodge is sleepy Cirali’s most exclusive address. The 14-room bolthole makes good
use of its subtropical surrounds with elements of its verdant natural backdrop
creeping into the interiors: look out for living walls, soak-worthy tubs atop
beach pebbles and, in the Aqua Super Deluxe suite, a glass-covered rock
garden. Each morning you’ll be greeted by a glass of freshly squeezed
pomegranate juice from the orchard, clucks from the sultan chickens and
airy acknowledgement from the peacocks that patrol the palms. On your
doorstep are the ruins of the ancient city of Olympos, whose Roman temple,
bathhouse and Lycian tombs straddle the mouth of the Akcay River. It’s just
a 15-minute stroll, so you’ll have ample time to relax in your hammock
afterwards.
