RAAS Chhatrasagar Hotel

India

Think camping can’t be luxurious? Think again. Pitched on a 600ha plot at the water’s edge – home to over 200 species of birds – getting close to wildlife is second nature at RAAS Chhatrasagar in India’s northern state of Rajasthan. Grassland, farms and little else surround the camp, making going off-grid easy, peaceful and every bit romantic. Choose from a family or two-person tent, all with panoramic views across the reservoir, hand-embroidered fabrics, deep bath tubs and Jodhpur stone. Days start with bird song, followed by a guided yoga session, traditional Ayurvedic treatment and poolside relaxation. Channel safari glamour with boat trips, hikes and bush lunches where you may spot jackal, mongoose and wild boar, or venture further afield for temple visits. Back at base, chef Anand Chand serves spicy Rajasthani curries using family recipes and site-grown produce under starlight.

Luxury tents from £356. 00 91 291 263 6455, raashotels.com
