Shou Sugi Ban House Hotel

USA

Sitting at the juncture of tranquil East Coast B&B, Japan-inspired wellness retreat and Nordic fine diner is Shou Sugi Ban House. Channelling a wabi-sabi ethos in Upstate New York, it’s a haven of minimalist interiors that combines a historic inn and contemporary barns linked by dune grass-lined pathways. Soft blonde wood is a signature across light-filled spaces. Beside the inn suites, 13 standalone garden studio rooms – complete with wooden soaking tubs – include first-in-line spa access. Expect Watsu, steam areas, an open-air pool, massage, hydrotherapy, fitness and yoga classes. Conceived by Noma’s Mads Refslund in keeping with the retreat’s holistic approach, the biodynamic menu features Asian inflections and artistic flair. Included in stays are Tesla transfers and access to the excellent Parrish Art Museum next door. Long walks on the nearby beach are an added bonus.

Studios sleeping two, including spa sessions, transfers and meals from £970. 00 1 631 500 9049, shousugibanhouse.com
