When it comes to detail, The Arden pretty much has it covered. Occupying the best spot in town, opposite the Royal Shakespeare Company, it is a short stroll from the River Avon. The hotel rooms all come with the usual luxuries – think top-notch toiletries and marble bathrooms – but it’s the feature suites that leave a lasting impression. Our favourite was the deliciously decadent Mulberry suite which comes with a roll top bathtub overlooking the River Avon. If you can tear yourself away, the food is just as good. The Waterside Brasserie is usually packed for business thanks to the pre-theatre menu and during the summer evenings, you can expect diners to spill out on to the terrace while enjoying the roasted rump of veal in a Madeira sauce.
