The Dylan Hotel

Keizersgracht 384 1016 GB Amsterdam

The Dylan is a hotel imbued with a sense of place; it could only be in Amsterdam. From its stone, arched entranceway (a 17th-century former theatre entrance) to the tiered brick in the Michelin-starred Vinkeles restaurant, the building’s former life as a Dutch stately home is evident in every nook, every cranny. But Dutch design being what it is, a historic shell results in a space that is anything but; interiors are fresh, modern and plush, and quirky. The bedrooms – there are 40 of them – are decked out in several themes, from the natural copper hues of the Loxura suites, to the spectacular Zensation white suite (don’t even think about drinking red wine in here). The bar serves up a ‘High Wine’– a sort of happy hour afternoon tea – while the restaurant sticks to more serious stuff, of the contemporary French variety. A leafy garden enclave with tables scattered beneath the sunshine makes for a delightful breakfast spot, but being centrally located on the Keizersgracht in Amsterdam’s leafy east, means you also have one of the city’s nicest neighbourhoods on your doorstep. AEM. Doubles from £268.
