Hambrough Rd, Ventnor, Isle Of Wight
In the tiny town of Ventnor, believed to be in one of the warmest and sunniest spots in Britain, chef Robert Thompson leads a highly skilled kitchen brigade and front-of-house team at The Hambrough. It is the island’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, so why not spend three hours of your stay sampling Thompson’s impressive tasting menu. Expect impeccably executed dishes such as roasted loin of New Forest venison with snails, roasted chervil root and a field mushroom purée or a quince posset with poached blackberries and a dry cider granite. Later, you can rest in one of seven rooms, with views of the sea or St Boniface Down, all equipped with an espresso machine and underfloor heating. Doubles from £170.
