The Old Parsonage Hotel

Oxford, UK

This is the kind of hotel that goes straight in the address book under ‘Repeat Visits’, evoking a hybrid spirit of country house meets boutique bolthole. A honeyed stone facade gives way to stylish interiors including a beautiful art collection – ask for a catalogue to scan over coffee in the library - and 35 inviting suites with marble bathrooms. But there’s more to a visit here than a comfy bed for the night. Locals come for the Parsonage Grill’s pitch-perfect menu: scallops with pea purée and crisp bacon, and confit duck with roast salsify, ceps, chestnuts and sauternes sauce couldn’t be better. In the morning, hire a vintage bike to explore– the river, Ashmolean and Botanic Garden are all in striking distance. Cosy in winter and a summer joy when the terrace opens wide, you’ll want to return all seasons.
