This ivy-clad 17th-century inn has rightly been winning plaudits for its food created by chef/patron Jonathan Harrison, at the helm since 1999. During that time, he’s managed to build up a loyal following for his modern British cooking. A big promoter of all things local, his menu goes from hearty slow-cooked Wensleydale beef with black pudding to a lighter lemon chicken with crushed new potatoes. Just two rooms are available, both in keeping with the authentic feel of the inn. Doubles from £85.
