The Zetter Townhouse Hotel

49-50 St John's Square, London

From the outside it looks like any Georgian house. Inside, it’s an explosion in a curiosity shop. Stuffed kangaroos, cats with parasols, cosy armchairs, cabinets packed with antique knick-knacks – this is the home of the eccentric, turn-of-the-century aunt you never had. At the bar you take cocktails such as The Flintlock, for dinner you have incredible small plates from Bruno Loubet – beef daube on mash, chicken basquaise, squid salad – and then you retire. The rooms are British-eclectic. From Union Jack beds to genuine antique radios, the detail is immense and impossible not to love. Ironic, given the Georgian feel, this a wonderful example of a modern bolthole. Doubles from £222.
