Trigony House Hotel Hotel

Closeburn, Dumfries And Galloway, Scotland

Is it small, or just far away? Trigony House Hotel stands proud on a green Dumfriesshire hill and looks like a grand manor house, but it’s one in miniature. The oak-panelled hall leads to the 10 rooms, large and sunny with lead-paned casement windows, vintage 1930s dressing tables and a copy of The Tao of Pooh in the bedside drawer. It’s a relaxed, slightly old-school place where kids and dogs are welcome; outside is a walled vegetable garden, a dumpy grey pony and a flock of hens. The cooking is thoroughly grown-up, however; home-style dishes packed with big, well-balanced flavours – seared wood pigeon, Scottish scallops, melt-in-the-mouth lamb shank, veg from the garden. Doubles from £105, including breakfast.
