A converted 18th-century farmhouse, Widbrook Grange offers 19 plush, cosy rooms and a ruinously well-stocked gin bar. The hotel is part of a growing portfolio from owners Nick and Charlotte Dent, whose properties are big on warmth and comfort: expect goose-down duvets and hearty menus. The old stables have become guestrooms, their decor a nod to the Wiltshire countryside outside, while another building houses a heated swimming pool. While this is a great base for exploring the West Country, you may well not want to go anywhere.
