South Devon
Set in the wooded Avon Valley in South Devon, Avon Mill Garden Centre is home to a beautifully restored stone barnturned deli. Fresh bread, locally sourced fruit and vegetables, duck and quail eggs, and homemade chutneys make up just some of the rustic deli’s regular stock, while tubs of thick chestnut purée and a range of herbal spiced teas carry a little festive flavour into the new year. Black olive salami from award-winning Deli Farm Charcuterie, accompanied by Avon Hill’s cheese of the month and a slathering of homemade pesto on crusty bread rivals any ploughman’s lunch.Baked figs robed in white chocolate from artisan producer Seggiano and scones topped with clotted cream from nearby Langage Farm make equally enticing sweet options. There’s a solid drinks offering too, with Bramley and Gage Slider – a West Country sloe gin and cider liqueur – and elderflower presse from Stoke Gabriel on the River Dart among the local favourites. Plan your trip to coincide with one of the many dinner and live music events in the adjoining garden centre café, which serves up plenty of dishes using fresh deli ingredients.
