Daylesford Organic Farmshop At Kingham High Res

On opening the original Daylesford Farm in the Cotswolds in 1975, the Bamford family’s vision was simple: to turn their land into an organic and sustainable hub and provide some of the best produce in the UK. Today, as they launch their new flagship site in London, nothing has changed. Everything is as ethically sound and tasty as ever.

Inside, whitewashed brick walls make the perfect backdrop for a nine-metre-tall oak tree, which has been transformed into a natural piece of art and takes centre stage up through all three floors. If the smell of freshly baked organic honey, fig and walnut bread and three-seed banana muffins doesn’t lure you in, the mountain of colour-matched fruit and vegetables most certainly will.

Fill your eco-friendly ‘kootsac’ shopper – made from durable nylon fabric – with butternut squash chutney, beetroot and rosemary crackers and honey-spiced nuts, before browsing a huge range of cuts of beef, chicken, lamb and pork. The dry-aged beef topside joint is the perfect centrepiece for a Sunday lunch, served alongside roasted carrots, parsnips and potatoes roasted in beef dripping.

For a quick snack, grab a freshly churned yoghurt made from British Friesian cattle, whose rich, creamy milk makes for delectable dairy. The house-made Bledington Blue is ideal melted on sourdough toast, or else go for Double Gloucester, with its rounded, mellow taste.

After you’ve got a larder’s worth of produce, head upstairs to the café for a spot of lunch. An ever-changing menu is guided by the seasons, with oven-baked pizzas served up alongside daily specials. If it’s on the menu when you visit, be sure to try one topped with Wootton Estate venison, celeriac, chestnut mushrooms, cobnuts and thyme. It’s an unusual flavour combination that just really works.
