Go West

Borough Yards’ Akara is the trendy, casual sister of Michelin-starred Akoko – and she goes big on flavour. Starting with the deep-fried namesakes, akaras, is essential: made from black-eyed beans and synonymous with West African-Brazilian cooking, these crunchy, golden bites are split down the centre and stuffed with prawn, crab or tomato, ready to dunk in hot sauce. Follow with larger sharing dishes: yaji-seasoned and fire grilled king oyster mushroom, Lagos chicken and Efik rice are highlights. It’s modern, it’s chic, it’s West African done well.
