Devon’s South Pool might just be the prettiest village you’ve never visited. But you should change that and head to Millbrook Inn, which is what every gourmet pub should strive to be. Owned by a family farm, the kitchen to this locals’ pub (a proper one too, where there’s always chat to be had) is stocked with its own longhorn, Tamworth pork and Manx sheep, close ties that lead to such depth of flavour. But this is more than good food: it’s also games by roaring fires, friendly staff (headed by an ex-Claridge’s alumnus) and a comfortable stay in one of two pristine cottages opposite.
