For a place that delivers no-nonsense fare really well, it sort of makes sense that Canal’s building in Westbourne Park was once the waterside London Taxi Drivers’ Association HQ: it delivers the good stuff really well. Cocktails – including olive oil negroni and brown butter old fashioned – are as good as they sound, and the food convinces at every turn: Coombeshead Farm jamón, black figs with stracciatella and walnuts, quality bits of fish and meat: well-sourced with a seasonality that is as trendy as the flared denim trousers of the waiting staff.
