The Cliff, Derricks, St. James, Barbados, BB24110
Acrophobics, look away now. Resembling a ship’s bow, the vertiginous Cliff Beach Club – sister to Barbados stalwart The Cliff – is carved into a craggy rockface set within a cove on the island’s west coast. A quiet street-level entrance belies what’s beyond and the alfresco dining room boasts gloriously uninterrupted, horizon- sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea.
Less stuffy than its neighbouring restaurants, the West Indies meets French Riviera vibe makes it a great spot for a casual and trendy meal. A menu of stunningly presented dishes includes a wonderfully light, colourful salad with truffle oil-infused burrata, squid stuffed with chorizo and pine nuts and the freshest octopus carpaccio with edible flowers. Spicy vongole and grilled red snapper head up the mains along with a twist on the classic club sandwich that lauds lobster over chicken. The panna cotta with glazed banana is our pick for puds.
Of an evening, fire-lit torches illuminate the ocean, inviting diners to spot stingrays beneath the surface. The buzzy bar with its good cocktail list and DJ booth on the upper floor keeps guests entertained long into the night. BG.
