El Portalon

Ibiza

Anne Sijmonsbergen is something of an organic and sustainable food pioneer in Ibiza. Her 450-year-old farm, Can Riero, supplies produce to many of the top local restaurants and chefs, so it was only a matter of time before she opened a place of her own.

Set inside the old town walls, on a sloping cobbled street smothered in vines, this hilltop spot is a bohemian haven. Summer dining takes place – preferably at sunset – in the courtyard and terrace (all cascading greenery, twinkling fairy lights, and blankets for when cool nights come calling), while interiors are spacious, rustic and wonderfully low-key.

Locally sourced ingredients – many from Can Riero – hang at the very centre of the concise, vibrant menu. Dishes such as silken squid stuffed with sobrassada sausage and spinach, clams dancing in a delicate consommé elevated by Ibizan black ham, and burrata with sautéed fava beans, asparagus and a whiff of cumin are on the cards. Home-made breads, ketchups and pickles act as the perfect passenger to charcuterie boards showcasing the island’s cured meats and cheeses. Be sure to try a flash-distilled herb cocktail while you’re there, too.
