Located in the super-cool Ancoats area, Erst is all about small plates designed for sharing, tapas-style, with fermented foods playing a big role. Go for the pickles and ferments plate, alongside other highlights such as mussels with ’nduja and focaccia, or salt cod with clementine, bergamot, turnip and chilli. Supper is best complemented with a glass of natural wine from Erst’s extensive list. The restaurant’s founders originally worked together at Manchester brunch hotspot Trove café and bakery, right next door, which itself does a mean grilled-cheese sandwich with homemade kimchi.
