German Gymnasium

Housed in England’s first purpose-built gym, which, in 1866, held London’s Olympic Games, German Gymnasium has gone for gold with its Mittel-European menu. Bedecked in black leather and velvet, its handy King’s Cross location lends itself to a fuss-free festive affair. Generous German and Austrian dishes dominate: order the Wiener schnitzel to share, or try the crowd-pleasing
KX currywurst with triple-cooked chips. Leberknödelsuppe (calf liver dumplings) in beef broth is a more delicate pick. Round off the night with boozy Black Forest gateau.
