Known for its strong community spirit, Spitalfields in London’s East End is the perfect location for the home-style Indian kitchen Gunpowder. Family recipes pepper the 20-dish tasting menu: the deliciously smoky and aromatic Maa’s Kashmiri lamp chops are from owner Harneet Baweja’s mother-in-law. For vegetables, the whole sigree-grilled mustard broccoli, slathered in spiced yoghurt, is a must-try. But leave room for dessert, such as the melting molten spice chocolate cake, inspired by a Mumbai street vendor who sells chocolate chai.
