Bergstraße 22, Berlin, Germany
Stylish plates of seasonal, regional food are the biggest pull to Katz Orange in Berlin’s trendy Mitte district. Inspired by cuisine from around the globe, the menu combines warm, homely dishes with some serious techniques. The pared-back dining room boasts dreamy interiors; exposed brick walls, rich upholsteries, taxidermy, eclectic flea market finds and low- slung colonial plantation chairs more than set the tone for a relaxed and well-executed meal.
For starters, Middle Eastern-style pearl barley tabouleh with beetroot and caramalised garlic or Asian-style parsley root soup with avocado, nashi pear and sesame awaken the palate. The likes of Nordic-inspired chicken with root vegetables and lingonberry for mains represent the restaurant’s style well, while the signature Duroc pork comes with a generous second helping. Interesting puddings include Austrian pancakes with Turkish delight and a fabulous selection of sorbets including blood orange chocolate, cucumber, lemon and mint and beetroot wasabi. The cocktail bar keeps things lively, with a choice selection of spirits from a number of small German distilleries.
