York
Mr P’s has a fine pedigree. Its big brother, Michelin-starred The Star Inn, was voted Food and Travel Gourmet Bolthole of the Year. With Andrew Pern at the helm, expect good things. From its classic facade to the eclectic dining room and globetrotting menu of small plates, this is convivial dining at its best. Get stuck in with hand-carved jamón Ibérico and raclette over hunks of brioche. Potted shrimp toasties with dippy eggs served in goose-foot-shaped cups is delicious and quirky, while slow-cooked ribs and salt-baked spuds are equally good.
