Budapester Str. 40 10787 Berlin
This modern restaurant is as much about the atmosphere as it is the food. Set on the roof of Berlin’s quirkily designed 25hours Hotel Bikini, it overlooks the treetops of the Tiergarten – and being ten floors up, stunning 360-degree city vistas are guaranteed. Scandi-chic furniture, ‘living’ greenery, industrial lighting and a quasi- beatnik clientele all come in one neat package.
The food bills itself as a culinary mosaic of Persian, Russian, Arabic, Moroccan, Israeli, Turkish, Spanish, German and Austrian influences – which sounds like it could never work. Though the opposite is certainly true.
Chef Haya Molcho’s menu is heavy with sharing plates. Visit at lunch and order tender chicken, cooked sous vide after a 48-hour marinating session in arak (anise spirit) and fragrant herbs, then flashed on the grill for a crisp finish. Flaky codfish with a Moroccan- inspired tomato ragout is equally good.
Homemade falafel laced with mint, hamshuka (minced beef, lamb and chilli) and Tel Avivian sabich (aubergine, hummus and slow-poached egg) are all ones to try. Round it off with chia seed and lemon curd crumble. BG. 00 49 301 202 210, 25hourshotels.com.
