Carrer Rosellón, 265, Barcelona, Spain
If you can’t make it to Girona to eat at the restaurant voted the World’s Best in 2013, there is a great way to circumvent the ten-month waiting list. El Celler de Can Roca now has an outpost in Barcelona, offering a soupçon of city style along with the playful, experimental cuisine that distinguishes the Roca brothers’ style.
Roca Moo is the jewel in the crown of Hotel Omm, a high-design hotel in the city’s elegant Eixample district. Running across the entire back section of the buzzy lobby, it is semi- integrated with the adjacent Moo Bar, where Barcelona’s chic gather. Come early to avoid the music and enjoy a serene, minimalist space with a Japanese vibe, thanks to an interior garden planted with birch trees which recall the Girona original. And if £72 for a tasting menu is too rich, consider a lunch menu for about half the price.
The traditional Catalan ingredients the Rocas grew up with and still revere – pork and seafood – are seved with a highly contemporary twist, as in the signature carpaccio of pig’s trotter. Chef Felip Llufriu has justly earned his own Michelin star for his interpretations of Joan, Josep and Jordi’s cuisine, plus a few touches of his own. AG.
