There’s so much to like about Covent Garden’s Town: the décor (cool, 1960s vibe), the ethos (‘we’re so close to our cows, we named them’) and the credentials (chef Stevie Parle is simply a great cook). All that aside, this place has it nailed on the menu front alone, right from the snack-go: fried sage leaves with honey and chilli; radishes so crunchy, sweet and peppery you’ll go all Peter Rabbit on them; chunky, sweet scallops with smoked chilli butter; and – the star turn – a slab of rump steak from their own herd with gravy. Whatever they’re feeding their cows, it’s working. Town is the full ticket.
