Set in the heart of the Suffolk countryside in the picturesque village of Bildeston, The Crown is a traditional yet stylish gastropub with rooms.
The 400-year-old, Grade II-listed former coaching inn — timber-framed and agreeably wonky — is owned by the Nedging Hall Estate. Inside, it feels polished yet full of character: low beams, log fires, creaking floors and cosy corners aplenty.
In the restaurant, chef Greig Young’s estate-to-plate menu draws on the finest seasonal produce from the Nedging Hall kitchen garden, alongside wild game and meats from nearby farms.
After dinner, retreat to one of 13 newly refurbished bedrooms — generous, comfortable and ideal for a countryside escape — before a relaxed breakfast the following morning.
The prize: one lucky reader will win a one-night stay for two at The Crown, including a three-course dinner each with a bottle of house wine to share, plus breakfast.
