17 Farrier Street Hotel

Deal

When the weather is fair, there’s no finer place to appreciate Britain’s bucolic beauty than on the south coast. Many of the old port towns here are in the grip of gentrification, and its subsequent influx of excellent restaurants and bars. Hotels, however, are slow to catch up, so we’re tipping house rentals as the best way to appreciate it right now. Deal’s 17 Farrier Street ticks every box for a multi-generational escape. Yards from the seafront and beautifully styled, the property sleeps 12 across five individually designed bedrooms. Everything is geared towards family fun (a TV is hidden, thankfully, in a cupboard) with a sheltered garden space replete with top-end barbecue that’s set to be the epicentre of summer parties. Junior wetsuits are provided to take things down to the beach, where hours of body-boarding await in the invigorating English Channel.

Back at the ranch, an extremely well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to bring your own brand of cooking to Kent. Set a few hundred metres from the town’s best butcher, The Black Pig, as well as a small supermarket and plenty of other independent food retailers, inspiration is at every turn. When night falls, retire to the wood-panelled dining room, where French doors open wide onto the garden.

You won’t struggle to pick a bedroom across the three storeys. Though, if privacy is key, head to the top floor. A brilliantly lit, white-fringed room has its own free-standing bath. From £900 per night.
