21 Carpenter, Singapore Hotel

Singapore

Bringing modern edge to the Lion City, 21 Carpenter is a story of heritage retold. Sitting on the cusp of bustling Clarke Quay and Chinatown, it’s found in a remittance house dating back to 1936. Lauded architects WOHA were entrusted with reimagining the space – which opened recently as a part of Design Hotels – paying due reverence to its origins, while ensuring all the modern luxuries you’d expect of a city stay were in place. A total of 48 rooms are found within – branching from the original build (the Heritage Wing) to its masterful five-storey, metal-clad tower (the Urban Wing). Throughout, local artisans and producers have been charged with everything from the art on the wall to the in-room snacks. Crowning it all is a rooftop infinity pool and lounge. Elsewhere, a garden terrace and Kee’s neo-bistro and bar by Michelin-starred chef Andrew Walsh complete the exciting picture.
