Greece
Atop a jagged shoreline with views stretching across the Aegean Sea, Arco – translated as ‘on the edge’ – is a fitting name. Carved into the cliffs of Crete’s Mononaftis Bay (with a handful of cave-dwelling suites), this luxury resort speaks to a love affair with nature. Inside, local materials of marble, stone, wood and organic fabrics and locally-crafted fixtures create a sense of calm. There’s a heavy emphasis on sustainability too – Acro only uses solar energy, has dissolvable packaging and at the restaurant fine Greek dishes lean heavily on organic and vegetarian options. Life doesn’t get much better than soaking up the warm rays in your own private salt pool – which you’ll find at each of the 49 suites and villas – or practising your chaturanga during a morning yoga session under an impressive curved bamboo covered roof. It’s the wellness retreat you didn’t know you needed.
