For in-the-know Lisboans, the stunning stretch of Alentejo coast is the place to head for weekend sun and surf – and Comporta has long been under wraps. That was until late 2022, when hotelier AlmaLusa chose the village to open a boho- inspired bolthole to add to its Lisbon properties. Close to 20km of uninterrupted sandy shores on the
banks of the Sado river estuary and overlooking lush rice fields, it exudes a relaxed beach feel. Of the 53 rooms, 31 are suites and you’ll find natural materials, muted ochre fabrics and a rotating exhibition of local art pieces. It’s an ideal place for laid-back family time, with plenty of R&R to be had at the pool, in a yoga class or in the shaded garden.
Wellness continues at the ground-
floor café, where you’ll find quinoa
salads, fruit juices and fresh salmon
wraps. The chilled Library Bar is
perfect for an afternoon glass of
Douro Valley wine and perhaps a
few local oysters – and, come sunset,
head to the roof for a tequila cocktail.
