Bebek Hotel by The Stay Hotel

Turkey

Nestled in a sheltered bay on the Bosphorus, in one of Istanbul’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, this hotel may have a history dating back to the 1950s, but its decor speaks a modern language. Local architect-designer Mahmut Anlar is behind it, combining reclaimed art deco features with eclectic works by young Turkish artists and a curated pick of antique pieces that tell a thousand stories.

A number of the 22 stylish suites come with private balconies, bay window seats and cocktail cabinets, meaning the hardest decision will be whether you watch the boats flit by with a Turkish coffee in hand or with an Old Fashioned. And the waterside views extend to the two restaurants (one Chinese, one Mediterranean) and from the lively, sun-kissed rooftop bar.

A perfect base – amid bustling cafés and boutique shops – there’s plenty to entertain, including a relaxed stroll to the historic Rumeli Castle and Anatolian Fortress, nearby.
