Addresses in the Algarve don’t come any more prestigious than Quinta do Lago, and of those, Four Seasons Fairways is arguably the most luxurious. Having recently had a major makeover, the 132-villa resort is looking more manicured than ever, its cool Portuguese design making it feel more like an exclusive village than a hotel. The Clubhouse forms a chic hub for guests of all ages, with amenities that include three pools, a Turkish bath, sauna, gym, tennis courts, snooker room, well-stocked golf shop, and, during school holidays, a kids’ club. While the resort offers nature-led packages, taking in the majestic Ria Formosa reserve, for many guests, the only greens they’ll be wanting to get up close to are those of the area’s world-class golf courses.

If you didn’t pack your own clubs, fear not: Fairways will provide a quality TaylorMade or Callaway set for your use. The only hard bit will be choosing between Quinta do Lago North, with its inland hill views, the Quinta do Lago South course, overlooking lake and lagoon, or Laranjal, on the verdant site of a former orange grove. Either way, be sure to refuel at excellent restaurant Amara, after.
