Nairn is known for its white sand
beaches and dramatic views over
the Moray Firth – but, since a
change of ownership, Boath House
has presented another reason to
hotfoot it to this Highland fishing
town, thanks to the recent launch
of its restaurant in the main
Georgian house. The setting is
elegant, the dishes exquisite and
it’s evident that London chefs
Philip Mcenaney and Katie Austin,
both formerly from London’s Trinity
restaurant, are clearly like children
in a sweet shop amid the world-
class Highland produce on the
doorstep. Expect game from
nearby Cawdor Estate and edible
moss from Culbin Forest; even
their cult dessert, beef-fat bread and butter pudding, calls on meat
wholesaler Macduffs and bilberries
foraged from surrounding moors. The group behind the revamp is
Cabin Studio of Sessions Art Club
fame, and nine ensuite rooms and
two studios in the grounds – The
Writing Studio and The Painting
Studio – reflect the artistic focus.
Each nook, every design detail is
carefully curated and the rooms
are unfussy and serene. The hotel continues to host artistic
residencies (‘All we ask is that you
leave something behind’), which
only enhances the sense that
despite being geographically
remote, its finger is firmly on the
pulse. Doubles from £250.
