Built on a secluded beachfront on the Costa del Sol, Healthouse Las Dunas may be health retreat in form, but it’s not what you’d expect in style. The restaurant is overseen by Andoni Luis Aduriz (founder of two-Michelin-starred Mugaritz) and there’s a marble-clad spa across 3,000 square metres with floatarium, snow cabin and Himalayan salt room. Add in that sea-view rooms look across three beautiful shades of blue framed by towering palm trees. Is it pool? Is it sea? Is it sky? Does it matter? It’s definitely calming, and on a clear day you can spot Cádiz, Gibraltar and even Morocco on the horizon. Inside, the hotel is all about relaxation with in-room Jacuzzi baths, daily massages that come as standard, and the calming soundscape of waves. You’ll feel right at home with an amenities menu that lets you pick shampoos and creams. Apples are a recurring theme, from bright green ceramic sculptures perched on tables to the super-sized wicker ones that double as pods for poolside siestas. Downward dog on the lawn in an outdoor yoga class shouldn’t be missed. Lunches and dinners are all four courses and seafood is a strong suit. Try mussels with pickled cucumber before king prawns with seawater foam. Retreat at night to an elegant room with extra large beds, made all the more dream- inducing with a spritz of lemon and lavender sleep spray.
