House of Jöro Hotel

Sheffield

For an urban feast with a nature-forward twist, head for the neat stack of shipping containers on Kelham Island, Sheffield’s oldest industrial district. There, among buzzing indie start-ups, you’ll find a restaurant whose old Norse name translates to ‘earth’, where the menu is based on British ingredients heavily influenced by travels across Asia and the traditions of Nordic cooking.

It was Jöro’s fusion of modern cuisines that granted the Steel City its first Michelin Bib Gourmand. Chef-patron Luke French offers cheerful, elegant plates that light up the moody interiors. Whether you settle for five, eight or ten courses, expect the likes of Highland Wagyu knuckle with wasabi mustard and watercress, yuzu custard with sorrel and Sheffield honey for dessert and a foraged botanical spirit to finish off. For an intimate dining experience with friends there’s the option to book the chef’s table.

After your meal stroll over to the recently launched House of Jöro boutique hotel, where you’ll find a tranquil space to unwind. Its four bedrooms were designed by Luke’s wife Stacey with Japanese-Scandi comfort in mind – think charcoal furnishings, statement art and the Jöro signature theme: emphasis on sustainable materials.

It’s a stone’s throw from the city centre, too, so there’s no shortage of ways to work up an appetite, exploring the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield Cathedral or the nearby Peak District.

Doubles, including breakfast and a 5-course tasting menu at Jöro, from £105pp. 0114 698 0627, jororestaurant.co.uk
