Imerovigli, Santorini, Greece
When it comes to Greece‘s Santorini, the combination of dazzling architecture and stunning scenery needs no introduction. But head away from the crowds to Imerovigli and a wonder await.
Think Santorini and the first images that come to mind are those whitewashed, blue-domed churches, caverns carved into the volcanic cliff edges and the ever-blue Aegean. The picturesque Greek island has been long sought out by travellers seeking sun, glamour and, of course, fresh seafood and mineral-rich Santorini wines. Those in the know head away from the main, crowded streets of Fira and make a beeline for serene spots like Imerovigli, where you’ll find Iconic Santorini – a boutique bolthole that punches well above its weight. Tucked away on the rim of the clifftop and set within ancient caldera walls, the property is spread across five levels that cascade down the volcanic rocks. There are 19 rooms and suites, all generous in space and decked out in traditional folk-style fabrics against a backdrop of local stonework. Most rooms come with stunning views across the caldera, some have private plunge pools and large terraces, while others offer candlelit grotto pools hidden within cave walls. Every inch breathes sophisticated elegance.
So far, so romantic. An adult-
only affair, those embarking on a
special occasion will find plenty of
experiences to make the getaway
even more special. Be it a private lobster and champagne picnic, an
aromatic couple’s massage at the
Iconic spa, a dip in the saltwater
infinity pool or a three-course
Greek dinner under the stars. But
mainly, it’s all about that view and
at the highest point of the island,
sun-soaked terraces and pergola
patios are the spots to catch the
famous Santorini sunset. You’ll be
forgiven for spending the entire
trip in your suite but if adventure
calls, venture to the 15th-century
fortress Skaros Rock, go shopping
in Fira or take to the water for a
spot of sailing. The ultimate Greek
island getaway. Doubles from
£225.
